Georgia Southern University is located in the city of Statesboro, Georgia. Known as a college town, Statesboro had a population just over 27,000 as of 2008. Blind Willie McTell wrote a blues song in the 1920s called, "Statesboro Blues," which was later covered by The Allman Brothers Band in the '70s. Their cover version was ranked No. 9 by Rolling Stone magazine in their 2005 list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time. Besides McTell, other famous Statesboro residents included former Braves closer John Rocker and actor Danny McBride, of "Eastbound and Down" fame.
